Our Story
In 2002, we bought 20 acres of hill and forest and began to homestead. The 300 pace cedar chip trail a guest will use to reach the site of The Joyeuse Garde, the Joyful Garden, Is the same one used the day we discovered this magical place. Our dream was to create a sanctuary for human life. The rocky promontory that our structures are embedded upon was chosen for its great potential for immersion by its inhabitants in the world of nature.
Here favor was given to the trees, wildflowers. ferns and moss of the Cascade foothills. Here the raven soars, chuckles and frolics. Nature's mood prevails with chilling blasts of wind from the Fraser River Valley being keenly felt by those who sojourn. Even more keenly felt are the still and misty mornings, damp moss underfoot, leading into long sun drenched afternoons. Regardless of the weather being fair or foul upon the hill, a guest will feel the call to revel in it!
With a love of nature, beauty and food, we have created an escape from the busy world to a quiet natural retreat in our amazing off grid designed original cord wood structures. Join us for warm hospitality, amazing views and a delicious meal.

Uniquely decorated and designed to provide a relaxing and restful experience, our cozy original cordwood cottage offers one queen sized bed. Our spacious bath house includes a fire shower experience and a claw foot tub for soaking.

Nestled in the foothills of Whatcom county, we are 25 miles from Bellingham,
35 miles to Mt. Baker and 50 miles from Vancouver. The Joyeuse Garde offers a peaceful and serene setting that is perfect for rest and relaxation. The Artistic structures and beautiful moss gardens of our off grid B&B is the ideal escape from the hustle of everyday life.
